about

Alex Haynes & the Fever Hackney, UK

From a blues/folk background in the North, Haynes moved to the capital to play in a couple of bands before forming his band The Fever in late ‘06.

The Fever was a rotating cast, along the way the act evolved into a two-piece with Haynes performing alongside pianist and drummer Rich Coulson.

With a heavy blues influence on Haynes’ songwriting and an elemental simplicity the result is a rich brew.

Track Name: Jungle Kid
Got an alligator heart, with a crocodile smile
Holding onto the reins, gonna make it worthwhile
Ain’t coming down, why don’t ya come on up
Come on over to the other side and try and test your luck

I’m the king of the jungle
You my jungle kid

Gotta ton of sobs, hidden in my shoes
Singin’ nursery rhymes,
An’ they sound like Bo Diddley’s blues
You mean old cat, sitting on the fence
I’ve the heart of dog in a jar,
And a too drunk horse to ride

I’m the king of the jungle
You my jungle kid

Gotta monkey suit, gotta dragons claw
Got everything you need right here and so much more
I’m the jungle kid baby, you my jungle kid
I’m the jungle kid, you my jungle kid

I’m the king of the jungle
You my jungle kid
And we better keep it hid
Track Name: You Better Run
What will you say, when y’go on home
He’s gonna know, that you been gone

A thunderstorm, come rolling in
Lightning, flashes down
He’s gonna know just where you been

You better run, you better run
You better run ‘fore your man done come
You better run

You’ve a pack of lies, which will you use
Like the jack of hearts
You just been played since the age of young

You better run, you better run
You better run ‘fore your man done come
You better run

Stop y’running ‘round, like the ace of spades
You sure to fall, honey child
You’ll never keep it hid

You better run, you better run
You better run ‘fore your man done come
You better run
Track Name: There Was a Time
There was a time, time past an’ gone
There was a time, time past an’ gone
Just about any old place, that’s where I’d rest my bones

Anywhere honey, just anywhere at all
Make it any place honey, just anywhere we to fall
I could really use, someone just like you

Said, why’d you ask me darlin’ where my love done gone
Don’t you ask me darlin’, if my love still strong
Y’know it’s right here, could never stay away too long
Even ten years on now, could never be too long

I like the bacon sizzle and the coffee nice and hot
But anytime that we’re together I’ll leave the coffee in the pot
Now where’s y’ tambourine honey
We got some shaking to be done
Well y’know I’m right here, I could never stay away too long
Track Name: I'm Broke Down
There’s a bad man lying by the side of the road
Y’can turn him over once, now he’s a rolling in dirt
Ain’t no lesson that’s ever been learnt
No more candles, just the feeling it’s all been burnt

I’m broke down
I’m broke on down, down, down, down, down
Y'got me rolling and a tumbling on down
Still, I’m looking for the beat, beat, beat

I’m a rusty old car – hear me rattle, hear me groan
And the brakes they never work now, well, they just moan
Ain’t no danger up on the roof
If there’s a rhythm in the air well let the whole world shake

I’m broke down
I’m broke on down, down, down, down, down
Y'got me rolling and a tumbling on down
Still, I’m looking for the beat, beat, beat

Well there’s a nervous shake that’s got me climbing the walls
Like a red light flashing, gotta cut on out
I could leave today or I could stay behind
Kick the ladder as I climb, then I’ll see what we find

I’m broke down
I’m broke on down, down, down, down, down
Y'got me rolling and a tumbling on down
Still I’m looking for the beat, beat, beat
Track Name: Busted
Good Lord, good Lord
Send me an angel down
Can't spare no angels, try a helping hand

I feel broke, I feel busted
Guess broke won't always last
But this busted up feelin', seem like it'll never pass

Good Lord, good Lord
Send me an angel down
Can't spare no angels, try a helping hand

I feel broke and I feel busted
I feel like cryin' but that will never do
When there ain't no-one around to be trusted
What's a poor boy to do

Good Lord, good Lord
Send me an angel down
Can't spare no angels, try a helping hand

Good Lord, good Lord
Send me an angel down
Can't spare no angels, don't know where I'm bound
Track Name: Come to Call
Must I, come and tell you now
You won't see your boy no more
'Cause nobody comes around
Nobody come to call

Girlfriend, well I tell you now
You won't see your man no more
'Cause nobody comes around
Nobody come to call

Mama, well I tell you now
You won't see your boy no more
'Cause nobody comes around
Nobody come to call
Track Name: That's Just Bad Timing
Found me high, found me low
Sloppy Drunken Joe
That’s my name tonight

That’s just bad timing
It’s all good, it’s all good – it’s just bad timing honey

Found me broke and busted, darling
Pocket full of empty
No room for no dough

That’s timing honey
That’ll be bad timing
It’s all good, it’s all good – it’s just bad timing honey

Blues all around my pillow
Must of fell outta my head
Met a girl in the evening wanted to show me her bed
Took my reputation down, to an all time low
Gotta take a spade now
Bury my shame so nobody know

Found you with another man
Kicking in my stall
It’s just bad timing honey
Too bad, too bad
It’s just bad timing
Track Name: Can't Stop Now
Take a big, big swig
Off that old can of oil
Wash down a little a rust
Write y’name in the dust

I’m making my way, my way on back
And I can’t stop now
Making my way, my way on back
And we can’t stop now

You can take my blue, blue, blues
Yeah, put ‘em in the big ol’ sky
Send up your aeroplanes
Write your name in the clouds

I’m making my way, my way on back
And I can’t stop now
Making my way, my way on back
And we can’t stop now

Pull off my dirty, dirty boots
Pull ‘em right off at the heel
You’ll never keep me from running
Running on back to you

I’m making my way, my way on back
And I can’t stop now
Making my way, my way on back
And we can’t stop now
Track Name: Buzz
Walking 'round all day I see the pretty girls go by
I wish that I were a bee and you were all my pretty flowers
I'd fly around town and I would just sting you all
Wake up girl don't you hear that hum
Wake up girl don't you hear that...

Well, I must be gettin' old or I must be just working too hard
I need the cut 'n' thrust, I need something just to pick me up
Four in the morning and I'm wide awake staring 'round the room
Wake up girl don't you hear that hum
Wake up girl don't you hear that...

Buzz, buzz - buzz, buzz, buzz

Walking 'round all day I see the pretty girls go by
I wish that I was a bee and you were all my pretty flowers
I'd fly around town and I would just sting you all
Wake up girl don't you hear that hum
Wake up girl don't you hear that...

Buzz, buzz - buzz, buzz, buzz

I said, walking 'round all day I see the pretty girls go by
I wish that I were a bee and you were all my pretty flowers
I wish that I were a bee and you were all my pretty flowers
I wish that I were a bee and you were all my pretty flowers
Track Name: Tell Everyone
When you make it out this world alive
Tell everybody that you know
When you make it to some other side
Tell anybody that you meet
I was trying, I was trying, trying to come through
I was trying, I was trying, trying to come through

When you make it on that old, old ship
Just look above your head
When you reach your golden shore
Look up instead
You’ll see me flying, I’ll be flying, flying to you
I’ll be flying, I’ll be flying, flying to you

When you make it out this world alive
Reach some other place
Tell everyone you know
Tell everybody you see
I was trying, I was trying
Trying to come through
I was trying, I was trying, trying to come through

Trying to come through
Trying to be with you
